Day Trading had its heyday during the bull market of the 1990’s.  Most of the amateurs have since dropped out… but day trading is still practiced by professionals.

There are fewer opportunities in the current market, but skilled investors can still find them… if they know what to look for.

The Forex is the world’s largest financial exchange market and it originated in 1973.   It has a daily currency turnover worth more than $3.0 trillion dollars.

Unlike most securities, Forex does not trade on a fixed exchange.  Instead, currencies trade primarily between central banks, commercial banks, various non-banking international corporations, hedge funds, personal investors and speculators.

Previously, smaller investors were excluded from trading forex due to the huge amount of required deposit.  This was changed in 1995 and now smaller investors can trade alongside the multi-nationals.

As a result, the number of traders within the Forex market has grown rapidly and many forex training courses are appearing to help individual traders increase their skills.

It is vital to know the market mechanics… how to leverage… rollovers… and the analysis the Forex market.  Newbies would do well to either enroll in a Forex training course… or purchase some books regarding forex trading.

The best forex training courses are not cheap… and they shouldn’t be because the potential of trading forex successfully is absolutely immense.

The forex market is highly unpredictable and there are many external factors (such as political issues)  affecting the flow of finances in the market.

If possible, verify the geographical location of the forex broker.  The financial industry is relatively unregulated in certain parts of the world, so avoid committing your money and personal details unless you’re absolutely convinced it is safe to do so.

By the way… even Swiss brokers should be closely scrutinized.

One good indication of reliability is if government regulations require the brokers to segregate all customer funds from the operational funds of the business.  Your money would be put in highly-reputable banks and the funds only withdrawn upon specific withdrawal requests.

Buyer beware… it’s relatively easy to create a fake regulatory body using cyber-space techniques.  Look at how easy it is to phish unsuspecting buyers using e-mail ploys.

Common sense is not necessarily common… so be extra careful of the following:

• It seems to good to be true
• Claims to predict or guarantee large profits
• The vendor downplays the investment risks
• Claims to trade in the “Interbank Market”
• Obvious targeting to various ethnic markets

Even in the United States you must be careful because despite the appearance of regulatory protection… there is considerable manipulation of the trading markets… especially those sanctioned by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Over a trillion dollars is traded on the Forex market everyday. You can learn to chart and follow the markets on your own… or you can rely on a broker as you would in the New York stock exchange.

You can live anywhere in the world and trade Forex.  There are no limitations to the money you can make… or the money you can lose. The Forex markets can be tapped into online, over the phone, or by contacting a broker in person.

You can learn about the Forex markets in a variety of ways… not the least of which is to simply google the internet.  In fact, today it has become somewhat faddish to try and make money online using Forex.

There are many so-called experts in the Forex markets… especially in the field of automated software.  But cautious here… don’t be suckered into buying a trading system that claims guaranteed results.

Keep in mind that regardless of the actual system you end up using, you are still placing your bets against a forex broker.  When you win… he or she loses… and vice versa.

There are several regions of trading within the Forex markets with sessions in Tokyo, Asia Pacific, and in the Americas.  Trading is non-stop… moving from London to New York, to Tokyo and so on again and again.

And, there is an assortment of currency pairs that you trade.  For example, you can invest in the US dollar, the Euro, the Japanese Yen or in Swiss Franc … among others.

In the U.S. we like to think our government agencies watch over us to prevent entities like unscrupulous forex brokers from taking advantage of us.

Nope… doesn’t work like that.  In fact, the very agencies who are supposed to be protecting us are themselves equally unscrupulous. 

This is especially true of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).  These guys and gals have been screwing around with violations for years and no one seems to give a rip.

Which means… you better be careful before you commit any of your hard earned moola to a forex broker.  Do a background check… pick up the phone and speak with them personally… check out some forums for good and bad comments.

There are some reliable and trustworthy forex trading systems manned by ethical brokers.  Just be careful… because taking legal action against them could be difficult.

On the other hand, most broker platforms permit you to trade all of the pairs.  But then again, some will not let you trade oil, gold or silver.

• EUR/USD – Euro and the US dollar
• GBP/USD – British pound and the US dollar
• USD/JPY – US dollar and the Japanese yen
• USD/CHF – US dollar and the Swiss franc
• USD/CAD – US dollar and the Canadian dollar
• AUD/USD – Australian dollar and the US dollar

Some experts recommend that you limit your trading to just one or two pairs (eg EUR.USD and GBP/USD.  Not a bad idea actually.

The number of brokers offering forex trades has increased dramatically over the last several years.  And, keep in mind that brokers are on the other (i.e. competitive) side of your trades.

You must take a more educated approach to trading foreign currencies… otherwise, you will undoubtedly lose your shirt.
